Font Licensing

When you purchase a typeface from Groteskly Yours Studio, you receive the rights to use it under specific terms defined in a license. A font license functions much like a software license — it outlines what is permitted and helps protect the designer’s work.

Our licenses are designed to be clear, flexible, and fair. Font licenses start at €35, and the following types are available: Desktop, Web, App, Digital Ads, Video, and Logo. Choosing the appropriate license ensures your use of the typeface is properly covered, whether you are an individual designer, a studio, or a larger company.

All licenses purchased through this website are one-time purchases and can be upgraded later if your usage expands beyond the original license scope.

Buying commercial fonts can feel a little overwhelming if you’re unsure about licensing terms. This guide simplifies font licenses to help you find the perfect fit for your project. At Groteskly Yours Studio, we offer six types of licenses: Desktop, Web, App, Digital Ads, Video, and Server.

When you “buy a font,” you’re actually purchasing the right to use it under specific terms. The license type determines where and how you can use the font. Each license comes with tiers based on usage limits, such as page views, number of impressions, or user count. When you exceed your limit, upgrading to a higher tier is easy and ensures compliance with licensing terms.

Desktop License

A Desktop License allows you to use a font on computers or other devices. The cost of the license is determined by the number of devices on which the font will be installed. It can be used for the following purposes:

Print (posters, collages, books, and magazines)
Creating static images
Social Media Content
Static Web Images/Banners
Offline Ads
ePub Books
Merchandise Design

Example Usage: A design team is preparing a series of printed brochures and selects Oktah Neue for the project. Since the font will be installed on ten computers, a 10-user Desktop License is required to cover this usage.

Web License

A Web License allows you to use a font on a website or a webpage. The cost of the license is calculated based on the average monthly number of page views the website receives. It can be used for the following purposes:

Embedding font on your website
Hosting .woff and .woff2 files on your website

Example Usage: A website receives approximately 200,000 page views per month. A Web License tier covering up to 250,000 monthly views is required. If traffic increases beyond this limit, the license must be upgraded to the next tier.

Adding fonts to video titles, subtitles, or overlays.
