Font Licensing Guide
A Desktop License allows you to install a font on your computer or other devices. The cost of a Desktop License is determined by the number of devices where the font will be installed. It can be used for the following purposes:
• Print (posters, collages, books, and magazines)
• Creating static images
• Logo
• Social Media Content
• Static Web Images/Banners
• Offline Ads
• ePub Books
• Merchandise Design
Example Usage: You’re searching for the perfect logo font and decide that Oktah Neue is exactly what you need. Since your team has ten designers who will be using the font, you can select a 10-user Desktop License to cover their usage.
Web license grants the right to use font on a website and is calculated based on the average monthly number of views your website receives. Web license can be used for the following purposes:
• Embedding font on your website
• Hosting .woff and .woff2 files on your website
Example Usage: Your website typically receives around 200,000 views per month. In this case, you purchase a Web License that covers up to 250,000 monthly views. If your website traffic exceeds that threshold, you’ll need to upgrade to the next tier.
App license allows you to embed the font to your app to be distributed via app marketplaces, such as Google Play or App Store. The license cost is determined by the number of titles that are utilizing the font. Web license can be used for the following purposes:
• Mobile App Design
• Mobile Game Design
Example Usage: Your app is available on both Android and Apple platforms. In this case, you would only need an App License for 1 Title to cover usage on both platforms.
A Digital Ads License grants the right to use the font in digital advertisements, including static or dynamic ads displayed on various digital platforms. The license cost is based on the number of impressions or views the ad campaigns are expected to receive. The Digital Ads License can be used for the following purposes:
• Using fonts for digital advertisements (e.g., web banners, social media ads).
• Embedding fonts directly in ad through online platforms (e.g., Google Ads, Facebook Ads).
Example Usage: You decide to use one of our fonts in your digital ads, and your ads are expected to receive 5 million views. In this case, you would choose a Digital Ads License that covers up to 6 million impressions.
A Video License grants the right to use the font in video content, such as films, TV shows, online and offline videos, and advertisements. The license cost is determined based on either a specified number of videos or an unlimited usage option. The Video License can be used for the following purposes:
• Adding fonts to video titles, subtitles, or overlays.
• Using fonts for video branding, intros, or end credits.
• Embedding fonts in promotional or commercial video content.
Example Usage: You’re a video blogger and want to use our font for your YouTube channel. Simply purchase an unlimited license, which allows you to feature the licensed font in as many videos as you like without restrictions.
A Server License grants the right to install and use the font on a server for automated or dynamic text generation, such as in web-to-print services, dynamic PDF creation, or other server-based applications. The license cost is determined by the number of CPUs (processors) on which the font will be installed and used. The Server License can be used for the following purpose
• Generating dynamic text for applications like invoices, receipts, or personalized documents
• Automating text rendering for web-to-print or on-demand publishing services.
• Embedding fonts in server-side applications that serve dynamic text to users.
Example Usage: You run an app that allows users to add text to their photographs. By purchasing a Server License, you enable your users to access and use our font directly within your app.
A Trial License allows users to test and evaluate the font before committing to a full commercial license. It allows the use of the font for internal purposes, such as creating mockups, client proposals, presentations, or concept designs. Once the design is finalized, a commercial license is required.
• Testing
• Prototyping
Example Usage: You download a font from GYS to test it for an upcoming project. If the font meets your needs, you purchase the appropriate license to cover your intended usage.
